Management and Leadership Skill for Agri Professionals

We are please to invite YOU and other professionals of your company at a highly customized training workshop “Management and Leadership Skill for Agri Professionals” organized by school of professional advancement (SPA) and office of career services (OCS) of UMT on November 16 and 17, 2012 at 10:00am to 5:00pm (Friday and Saturday). Although tile is for Agri Professional but heads and managers of other disciplines can also join us in this session .

SPA and OCS of University of management & technology (UMT) has taken this initiative to strengthen academia and corporate working relation with the help of promoting (industry wise) related required techniques, skills and knowledge that can add value to the professional of agri industry. 

Normally this type of programs cost 9 to 10K/person in the market but this is absolutely FREE and we are thankful to Auriga Group for sponsoring this workshop and bearing all cost. This is also reflection of vision of company that how much vigor they are to strengthen professional’s of Agri industry.

COMPPEC has traditionally been an Electrical & Computer Engineering and Computer Sciences projects exhibition and competition. This year the NUST College of Electrical & Mechanical Engineering (EME) is holding

11th of its series on 27th-28th June

The College has the honor to host COMPPEC for the last ten consecutive years. Only last year around 102 projects were exhibited from 40 different universities and colleges around Pakistan. This annual ICT festival is growing every year attracting more universities and students with relevant projects.

The College is collaborating with National ICT R&D Fund to focus on our shared vision of promoting and nurturing projects that would have the potentials of generating knowledge based economy for Pakistan. The projects have been grouped into four main categories.

Workshop on Open Source E-Government at UET Lahore

Pakistan Software Export Board (PSEB) is the Government agency mandated to promote Pakistan’s Information Technology (IT) industry. The Open Source Resource Center (OSRC) is a project of the Ministry of IT, executed by PSEB. It aims to promote open source solutions in the country through awareness-raising seminars, training workshops and network migrations.

As part of its new roster of initiatives, the OSRC team in collaboration with Al-Khawarizmi Institute of Computer Science, UET Lahore (KICS-UET) is conducting a work shop on “Open Source e-Government”on the occasion of 5th International Conference on Open Source Systems and Technologies (ICOSST-2011). The objective of this workshop is to convince companies, public/private organizations, institutes and SMEs to migrate to a more cost-effective open source working environment. PSEB has achieved significant cost saving while becoming intellectual property regime compliant by moving to open source.

PSEB will share its own internal experiences faced during the migration process. Further, a case study from CS department UET, Lahore will be presented where all computing resources have been converted to open source. In addition UET exchange server, internet servers, web servers, library management system, exam and registration systems are on open source.

The event is free and will be of two hours in duration and is scheduled during the afternoon session from 2:30 to 4:30pm on December 24, 2011. The interested participants/companies/departments are requested to send the confirmation to undersigned by 23st December 2011.

Workshop on 4th Generation Core Network Infrastructures

Center of Research in Networks and Telecom CoReNeT (www.corenet.org.pk) at M. A. Jinnah University, Islamabad is organizing a two-day training workshop on 4th Generation Core Network Infrastructures (EPC/SAE/LTE) on 27-28 January, 2012. in Workshop Room, B-Block M.A Jinnah University, Islamabad. Two day training is designed to provide better understanding of SAE/EPS network context, its components and their roles, signaling procedure and services provisioning use case.

LUMS – Computational Biology and Bioinformatics Workshop

Computational Biology and Bioinformatics Workshop (C2BW) is a training program organized by the Department of Biology, School of Science and Engineering, LUMS. It is targeted at PhD students, post-docs and researchers involved in the fields of molecular biology, biotechnology, bioinformatics, computer science and other closely related fields. Up to 30 participants from all over Pakistan will be selected using a criterion that primarily seeks participant’s strong interest in and the relevance of his/her research to computational biology. The program will span 5 days and will contain lectures/practical training sessions from qualified instructors in computational biology.  Additionally, in order to reinforce theory covered in lectures, there would be interactive sessions, with problem solving in individual and group settings.

The overall objectives of the workshop are:

  1. Training in the proficient use of computational biology/bioinformatics tools used frequently in biological research
  2. Teaching theoretical foundations of computational biology techniques to stimulate interest in this area
  3. Stimulating an environment of networking and collaborations for inter-disciplinary research


Training will be provided in the following areas of computational biology and bioinformatics:

  • Managing data in bioinformatics – making the most of web resources
  • Analyzing nucleic acid and protein sequences – from theory to practice
  • Phylogeny – understanding and deriving evolutionary relationships
  • Protein structures –  comparison and analysis
  • Biological networks – a systems approach to biology

Anthropology of Disasters – KIU & DAAD

A research school is to be held from March 19 to March 30, 2012, at the Karakorum International University (KIU) in Gilgit on the topic:

Anthropology of Disasters

The programme will include a 5 days workshop at the university (March 19-23, 2012) and and an excursion to Hunza and Gojal that examines the consequences of the Attabad landslide (March 25-30, 2012).

The workshop will be structured along the following topics:

  • Introduction/directions in the anthropology of disasters
  • Cultural interpretations of disasters
  • Disasters and gender relations
  • Politics of disasters
  • Anthropology and disaster management

Applications are invited from M. Phil and PhD students from all over Pakistan who are doing their research in social anthropology or other social sciences at universities in Germany and Pakistan who are engaged in empirical research about (“natural”) disasters are encouraged to apply for participation

Deadline is December 15, 2011.

The research school is jointly organized by the Institute of Social and Cultural Anthropology, LMU Munich, the National Institute of Pakistan Studies, Quaid-I-Azam University, Islamabad, and the Faculty of Social Sciences, Karakorum International University, Gilgit, Gilgit-Baltistan.

The research school is financed via the DAAD funding programme “German-Pakistani Research Collaborations” from funds of the German Federal Foreign Office.

Workshop on Management of Issues of Urban Growth Explosion

and methodological frameworks concerning investigations about
the social, cultural and economic contexts of rapidly expanding
cities in the South Asia.
