UNIDO (United Nations Industrial Development Organization) WED Programme
Brings 6-Day Training on Enterprise Development at Quaid-e-Azam University on 27th February to 3rd March, 2012 at Quaid-i-Azam University, Islamabad.
Pakistan Software Export Board (PSEB) is the Government agency mandated to promote Pakistan’s Information Technology (IT) industry. The Open Source Resource Center (OSRC) is a project of the Ministry of IT, executed by PSEB. It aims to promote open source solutions in the country through awareness-raising seminars, training workshops and network migrations.
As part of its new roster of initiatives, the OSRC team in collaboration with Al-Khawarizmi Institute of Computer Science, UET Lahore (KICS-UET) is conducting a work shop on “Open Source e-Government”on the occasion of 5th International Conference on Open Source Systems and Technologies (ICOSST-2011). The objective of this workshop is to convince companies, public/private organizations, institutes and SMEs to migrate to a more cost-effective open source working environment. PSEB has achieved significant cost saving while becoming intellectual property regime compliant by moving to open source.
PSEB will share its own internal experiences faced during the migration process. Further, a case study from CS department UET, Lahore will be presented where all computing resources have been converted to open source. In addition UET exchange server, internet servers, web servers, library management system, exam and registration systems are on open source.

Computational Biology and Bioinformatics Workshop (C2BW) is a training program organized by the Department of Biology, School of Science and Engineering, LUMS. It is targeted at PhD students, post-docs and researchers involved in the fields of molecular biology, biotechnology, bioinformatics, computer science and other closely related fields. Up to 30 participants from all over Pakistan will be selected using a criterion that primarily seeks participant’s strong interest in and the relevance of his/her research to computational biology. The program will span 5 days and will contain lectures/practical training sessions from qualified instructors in computational biology. Additionally, in order to reinforce theory covered in lectures, there would be interactive sessions, with problem solving in individual and group settings.
The overall objectives of the workshop are:
- Training in the proficient use of computational biology/bioinformatics tools used frequently in biological research
- Teaching theoretical foundations of computational biology techniques to stimulate interest in this area
- Stimulating an environment of networking and collaborations for inter-disciplinary research
Training will be provided in the following areas of computational biology and bioinformatics:

Anthropology of Disasters
The programme will include a 5 days workshop at the university (March 19-23, 2012) and and an excursion to Hunza and Gojal that examines the consequences of the Attabad landslide (March 25-30, 2012).
